The History of Godfrey Electric

Joseph C. McMullen founded McMullen Electric in 1929 and his company served all of Palm Beach County. After World War II ended, Albert G. Godfrey Sr. (Joe McMullen's son-in-law) went to work in the electrical field working for various contractors. In 1949, he became a partner with Joe McMullen and they formed McMullen & Godfrey Electric.   In 1950, Al Sr. decided to go it on his own and formed Albert G. Godfrey Electrical Contractor.

In 1960, Al's brother-in-law, Joe Bazinet joined the business and they formed Godfrey & Bazinet Electric. Again, in 1970, Al Sr. decided to have his own business and started Albert G. Godfrey Electrical Contractor. In 1972, after working for various electrical contractors and finishing his apprenticeship, Al Godfrey Jr. went to work for his father. Then, in December of 1973, after completing his apprenticeship and working for various other contractors, Joe Godfrey Sr. came on board.

In 1978, Al Jr. and Joe joined their father as partners and formed Godfrey Electric, Inc. In 1985, Al Sr. retired and Al & Joe assumed full control. They were joined by their brother Louis and Al Jr.'s son Tad, who both worked for the firm until 1992.

Louis now owns Electric Specialty Services and specializes in high-end custom homes in the towns of Jupiter Island and Palm Beach. Tad was General Manager of Peninsular Electric Distributors, one of the largest independent electrical wholesalers in the South. In November of 2007, Tad rejoined Godfrey Electric.

Joe Godfrey Jr. (Joe Sr.'s son) worked for Godfrey Electric until he joined the Navy as a Seabee (Construction Battalion) in 2004. In the fall of 2009, he received an honorable discharge and is currently working at Godfrey Electric and attending apprenticeship school.
